Profile
The Practice was established in 1965 by Geoffrey Butcher, trading as Geoffrey O Butcher & Associates.

Geoffrey was joined by his son Jonathan in 1984, and later by David Potter in 1998.

Now known as Butcher & Associates, upon retirement of Geoffrey in 2000, the Practice is of a size and nature to give personal attention to a wide range of commissions varying in size and complexity from small domestic extensions to moderate industrial and commercial projects.

Jonathan Butcher
Jonathan William Butcher, BA, Dip (Hon) Arch, RIBA, MRICS

Born in 1959 and educated in Tonbridge, Kent.  Gaining his architectural qualifications initially at West Kent College in Tunbridge Wells and later at Greenwich University based in Dartford.

During Jonathan's year out, he joined Wiltshers Design and Build as an assistant to the Company Architect undertaking measured survey work nationally and working on a variety of package schemes for warehouses, fast food outlets, offices and hotels.

Joining G O Butcher & Associates in 1984, initially as a Project Architect for a mixture of residential and industrial projects and being responsible for obtaining Local Authority Approvals, seeking tenders and overseeing work on site.

Becoming a Fellow of the Architects and Surveyors Institute in 1996 as a Corporate Building Surveyor, he undertook several Local Authority renovation, disabled facility and housing in multiple occupation grant works during the economic slow-down of the 1990's.  During this time also, Jonathan joined Angevin Limited, a specialist residential care home owner, as a Company Architect and Estate Manager responsible for the maintenance and expansion programme of nine institutional sites, ranging in scale from five to forty bedrooms.  Rejoining the Practice in March 2000 in partnership with David Potter and later becoming a member of the RICS as a Chartered Surveyor in September 2002.

Born in 1952, David has lived and worked in the Tonbridge area most of his career.  Following studies at West Kent College for OND in Building, he went on to obtain a Diploma in Architecture at Gloucestershire College of Art & Design, Cheltenham and then spent nearly three years with a West End Practice, working mainly on housing and educational projects.

He then worked locally in Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks for the next eleven years with C W Kempton & Partners and D G Joyce & Partners, both medium sized practices with mixed workload, both locally and London based projects.

The next seven years were spent as a sole practitioner concentrating on mainly smaller residential projects included Listed Building work and laboratory furniture design layouts.

In 1998 David joined Geoffrey O Butcher & Associates as a Partner, having had a life long link/association with the Practice, including employment prior to full time architectural studies.
